Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Fabulous short break

This is our third stay at la Pergola and was a lovely short break before the Easter rush. We upgraded to half board before we travelled and feel we got value for money. The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly…

Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Wonderful

We stayed here whilst walking the GR221 for a little bit of luxury and that is exactly what we got. Watching the sunset made it extra special.

Booking Review – May 2019

Fantastic apartment and area

Plenty of space in our apartment, very clean with everything we needed, plenty of windows around the apartment letting in a lot of natural light.

Cycling in Mallorca and the best routes to enjoy it

Cycling in Mallorca and the best routes to enjoy it

Mallorca has become one of the top destinations for cyclists from around the world. With a combination of great weather, stunning landscapes, and well-maintained roads, the island offers an ideal setting for both beginners and experienced cyclists looking for a serious workout.

Tramuntana Mountains Route

One of the most iconic cycling routes in Mallorca is through the Tramuntana Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Mountain range. This route offers mountain landscapes, breathtaking sea views, and the charm of quaint mountain villages. The Tramuntana route can be split into several sections and includes multiple towns, but the most famous stretch runs from Andratx to Pollença, covering around 110 kilometers.

Highlights include the Port of Sóller and the Coll de Sóller, a mountain pass with over 50 sharp turns that tests even the most experienced cyclists. Another unforgettable point is the Sa Calobra viewpoint, with a winding road leading down to the cove of the same name. This stretch is one of the most picturesque roads in Mallorca, requiring good physical condition and some mountain biking experience, but the views make every kilometer worthwhile.

Cap de Formentor Route

Known as one of the most stunning routes in Mallorca, the Cap de Formentor Route is a must for cyclists seeking a unique visual experience. This route extends about 20 kilometers from Port de Pollença to the Formentor Lighthouse at the northern tip of the island, winding through rugged landscapes with Mediterranean views.

Although the distance isn’t overly long, the route’s climbs and descents make it an exciting challenge. A highlight is the Es Colomer viewpoint, offering incredible views of cliffs and deep blue sea.

At the end of the route, the Formentor Lighthouse is a perfect spot to rest and soak in the spectacular scenery. This route is popular among cyclists of all levels, as you can adjust the intensity depending on your pace and whether you complete the entire route or make stops along the way.

Lluc – Sa Calobra Route

For cyclists in search of an extreme challenge, the Lluc – Sa Calobra Route tests both physical endurance and downhill skills. Starting in Lluc, this route includes the descent to Sa Calobra, a road known for its zigzagging curves and dramatic mountain scenery.

The descent to Sa Calobra, also known as the Coll dels Reis, is famous among professional and amateur cyclists alike, combining dreamlike landscapes with a route that requires skill and control on the turns. Upon reaching the small port of Sa Calobra, you’re rewarded with a crystal-clear beach, perfect for a break before tackling the return climb. Climbing this pass is demanding, but those who succeed often describe it as an unforgettable experience.

Palma – Sant Elm Route

For those seeking a less demanding but equally beautiful route, the Palma to Sant Elm route is an excellent choice. Covering approximately 35 kilometers, this route offers views of Mallorca’s southwestern coast, with more relaxed scenery compared to the mountain routes.

This route is ideal for intermediate-level cyclists, with moderate terrain that doesn’t include major mountain passes. Sant Elm, the endpoint, is a picturesque fishing village with spectacular views of Sa Dragonera Island, making it the perfect place to unwind after the ride.

Mallorca offers a wide variety of cycling routes for all levels and styles, from challenging mountain paths to more relaxed flat routes. With favorable weather, well-kept roads, and breathtaking landscapes, the island has become an ideal destination for cyclists. With its iconic routes, Mallorca delivers unforgettable cycling experiences at every kilometer.
