Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Fabulous short break

This is our third stay at la Pergola and was a lovely short break before the Easter rush. We upgraded to half board before we travelled and feel we got value for money. The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly…

Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Wonderful

We stayed here whilst walking the GR221 for a little bit of luxury and that is exactly what we got. Watching the sunset made it extra special.

Booking Review – May 2019

Plenty of space in our apartment, very clean with everything we needed, plenty of windows around the apartment letting in a lot of natural light.

7 Must-Do Activities in Sóller in Summer 2024

7 Must-Do Activities in Sóller in Summer 2024

Have you heard of the town of Sóller? It’s a charming village nestled in a valley in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca.

It’s one of the most popular summer destinations because it combines spectacular nature, rich culture, and enviable gastronomy all in one place. If you're planning to visit this paradisiacal spot during the summer, don’t miss these 7 essential activities that will make your trip an unforgettable experience.

Explore the Sóller Valley on the Historic Train

The Sóller train seems straight out of a time when gentlemen wore mustaches and hats, and ladies donned long skirts and corsets. This train, an icon of the town, is entirely made of wood and is where the adventure begins.

The Sóller train has been connecting Palma with this coastal town since 1912. The journey takes just under an hour and will take you through breathtaking mountain landscapes and orange groves, offering panoramic views of the Sóller Valley.

It’s a unique way to immerse yourself in the history and natural beauty of the region. And if you want a bit more excitement, you can ride for a while on the outdoor platforms between the carriages—fresh air and a sense of freedom guaranteed.

Explore the Old Town of Sóller

Upon arriving in Sóller, we recommend spending part of your morning strolling through the cobblestone streets of the historic center. Admire the modernist architecture in Plaza Constitución, visit the imposing Sant Bartomeu Church, and discover the charming local craft shops. Don’t forget to try freshly squeezed orange juice, as Sóller is famous for its oranges.

And if you want even more, many chefs believe that Sóller’s avocados are the best for any culinary creation. Are you going to miss out

Enjoy the Beaches of Puerto de Sóller

Just a few kilometers from the center, Puerto de Sóller awaits you with its crystal-clear waters.

The best way to get here is by taking the historic tram from Sóller to the port and spending a relaxing afternoon under the Mediterranean sun.

You can visit the maritime museum, stroll among the restaurants, or go snorkeling. You can also rent a kayak or simply enjoy a refreshing swim.

Take a Hike to Biniaraix

For hiking enthusiasts, a visit to the picturesque village of Biniaraix is a must.

Located just 3 km from Sóller, this small town is the starting point for numerous mountain routes. The cobblestone path leading to Biniaraix, known as "Barranc de Biniaraix," is one of the most spectacular trails in Mallorca.

Have You Tried the Local Cuisine?

The cuisine of this area is a feast for the senses. Be sure to try typical dishes like "pa amb oli," Mallorcan soups, or "frito mallorquín."

For those with a sweet tooth, almond "gató" cakes and artisanal ice creams are must-haves. And if you haven’t yet, order a dish with avocado or enjoy their citrus juices and desserts, which are grown directly in the valley.

Another must-try product is Sóller olive oil—different from all others and sold in small bottles as a perfect gift.

Visit the Botanical Garden and the Museum of Natural Sciences

If you’re looking to escape the midday heat, we suggest visiting the Sóller Botanical Garden, home to an impressive collection of Mediterranean and Balearic plants.

Right next door, you’ll find the Museum of Natural Sciences, where you can learn about the native flora and fauna of the islands.

Watch the Sunset from Cap Gros Lighthouse

To end your visit on a high note, head to Cap Gros Lighthouse at sunset. Located at the northern tip of Puerto de Sóller Bay, this spot offers spectacular views of the sea and mountains.

Sóller in summer is synonymous with lush nature, rich culture, and authentic experiences. By following these recommendations, you’ll make the most of your visit to this magical corner of Mallorca. Remember to book in advance, especially during high season, to ensure you don’t miss out on any of these unique experiences.
