Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Fabulous short break

This is our third stay at la Pergola and was a lovely short break before the Easter rush. We upgraded to half board before we travelled and feel we got value for money. The hotel is very clean and the staff very friendly…

Tripadvisdor Review – April 2019

Wonderful

We stayed here whilst walking the GR221 for a little bit of luxury and that is exactly what we got. Watching the sunset made it extra special.

Plenty of space in our apartment, very clean with everything we needed, plenty of windows around the apartment letting in a lot of natural light.

3 autumn markets in Mallorca

3 autumn markets in Mallorca

Autumn in Mallorca is a magical time, when the island is transformed by the warm colors of the season and the abundance of local produce is celebrated through its many markets. Ranging from traditional to themed, these markets are an integral part of Mallorcan life and offer an authentic experience for locals and visitors alike.

The tradition of markets in Mallorca

Markets have been an essential meeting point in Mallorcan culture for centuries. They are places where not only products are exchanged, but also stories, customs and traditions. With the arrival of autumn, these markets acquire a special charm, offering seasonal products such as mushrooms, pumpkins, fruits, sausages and a variety of handicrafts that reflect the cultural and agricultural richness of the island.

1. Santanyí Market is one of the most popular markets in Mallorca, the Santanyí Market is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the heart of the village of the same name. In autumn, this market is full of fresh local products, such as wild mushrooms and garden produce. It is also an excellent place to find handicrafts, textiles, and a wide range of Mallorcan products. Strolling through the cobblestone streets of Santanyí while enjoying the lively atmosphere of the market is an experience that captures the essence of autumn on the island.

2. La fira de tardor de Inca is a market, held over several weeks in November, is an explosion of culture and tradition. In addition to typical autumn products, such as chestnuts and new wine, visitors can enjoy craft exhibitions, parades and cultural activities. The Fira de Tardor is a perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in Mallorcan customs and enjoy a variety of local products in a festive atmosphere.

3. La fira de la Llampuga in Cala Rajada is a themed market that celebrates the fishing season for llampuga, a typical Mediterranean fish that is highly prized in Mallorcan gastronomy. This event takes place in Cala Ratjada at the beginning of October and is a sample of the close link between fishing and cuisine on the island. During the fair, visitors can sample a wide variety of dishes made with llampuga, as well as explore craft stalls and local products. It is a celebration of sea and land in one of the most picturesque corners of Mallorca.

The autumn market experience

Visiting the autumn markets in Mallorca is a multi-sensory experience. The vibrant colors of fresh produce, the enticing aromas of local specialties, and the lively sound of people conversing in Mallorcan create a unique atmosphere. These markets are not just places to shop, but spaces to connect with the local culture, learn about the island's traditions and enjoy Mallorcan hospitality.

The autumn season also celebrates the arrival of the beginning of planting and harvesting of many products. In recent decades other markets have become popular, such as the Sea Market in Sóller, or the Sweet Fair in Esporlas, which have become unmissable events and which we will talk about in the next posts.
